Virtual Organizing: Declutter Your Space from Anywhere

I added virtual organizing to my list of services in 2020, and it’s still a very popular option for clients who want online support for their organizing projects. Virtual organizing allows you to receive expert guidance and encouragement without someone physically coming into your home. In this post, I’ll talk about what virtual organizing is, and how virtual organizing can benefit YOU!
What is Virtual Organizing?
Virtual organizing is a collaborative process where you work with either Sara or myself through video calls (or even just phone calls and photos). Sara and I will ask questions about your goals, challenges, and vision for your space. Together, we will craft solutions that will work for your unique needs. We provide coaching, structure, and accountability. We help you decide where to begin, and will give you step by step instructions so that you don’t get lost in the weeds of organizing. Instead of us physically handling your items, we efficiently transfer our organizing skills to you, so that you learn how to do it yourself.
Benefits of Virtual Sessions and Why it Works
One of the most obvious advantages of virtual organizing is flexibility. Without travel time, it’s easier to schedule shorter, more frequent sessions that fit into your week. Even an hour of focused effort can create noticeable change when paired with the right support. But the really EXCITING advantage of virtual organizing is about neuroplasticity.
Neuroplasticity is the brain’s ability to form and reorganize connections, especially in response to learning, practice, or experience. In the context of virtual organizing and habit change, it means that each time you practice a new organizing skill, whether it’s putting things back in their designated place, setting up a routine, or decluttering a drawer, you’re strengthening new pathways in the brain.
When working virtually with us, because we aren’t there to “do it for you”, your brain will “rewire” itself faster to learn these new habits. When you’re the only one physically sorting and moving things around, you build the confidence and skills that last long after the session ends.
Virtual organizing is about creating clarity and ease in your life. With our support, small wins add up quickly. By working virtually, you gain not only a tidier space but also the tools and confidence to keep it that way.
Who Is Virtual Organizing For?
Virtual organizing is ideal for anyone comfortable using a smart phone or laptop, and motivated to take action through coaching. Sara and I do virtual sessions with clients both local clients and people who live farther away. It’s great for people who value accountability and fresh perspectives. And the shorter sessions mean it’s more affordable than in-home organizing. It’s also wonderful for people who would prefer not to have others into their home due to health limitations or privacy concerns.
How Frequently is Enough?
Sometimes one session is enough, if someone wants help with a concise project. Other times, ongoing support is a better option for longer term projects or habit change. It’s been very rewarding for me to watch how my clients learn new skills and implement them over time. It’s fun for me to scroll back through my notes to see how things that used to be a problem have been resolved.
