Using Crystals to Harmonize The Energy Of Your Home

I have loved gems and minerals for a long time. Like many kids, I collected them, and I still do. I loved going to the Smithsonian Natural History Museum in DC and the Natural History Museum in NY and looking at all the beautiful formations. About 10 years ago, I learned that I could use crystals to help with energetic space clearing! I was taking a class from a wonderful teacher who brought in a HUGE amethyst cluster to demonstrate the properties. Since then, I have been even more interested in how crystals can help harmonize the energies in a home. In this post, I will talk about some of my favorite crystals, and how to use them.
There are many different ways to use crystals, and there is no “right” way to use them. Different crystals are revered for having properties that can help create more balance in your life- however that may be (more love, more peace, more grounding, more strength, more clarity, etc). You may come across books or teachers who offer contradictory ideas, and that’s ok. What matters most is that you trust your own intuition and relationship with them. You may notice that you feel more connected to some crystals than others, and it can change over time, depending on what you’re needing. To cultivate that relationship with the crystals, I recommend getting curious about them. Hold them and see what you notice in your hands. Play with them, experiment, and notice what naturally arises. Here are some different ways you can use them:
Rose Quartz- Place in near you/ hold it when you want more self-love and self-compassion. Imagine it as the part of you that loves you no matter what.
Amethyst- This one is very calming, so good to hold when you feel overwhelmed or want to relax. It’s good to help you rest, refocus, and connect with your intuition.
Black tourmaline- Some people believe this stone repels negative energy, and others believe that it absorbs and transmutes it. It is a very grounding stone that will help with strengthening boundaries.
Selenite- This one is very cleansing, balancing, and grounding as well. Sometimes I will use it like a magic wand- pointing it at clutter or stuck energy. I also like to lay this stone lengthwise on my body for meditations/hypnosis.
Other stones I really like are Clear Quartz (“The Master Healer”), Smoky Quartz (grounding), Amber (calming), Citrine (positive energy- pairs well with Amethyst), Carnelian (for creativity and self-esteem) and Lapis (good for the throat chakra). All of these are very popular stones for healing imbalances that may lead to disorganization. I also really recommend whatever stone you naturally feel gravitated to. My personal favorite is Jet. I also have many different other stones that I will pull out for different occasions, depending on what I’m working on.
Here are some more ideas on how to use them:
- Create a crystal “home base”: Set up a tray, dish, or shelf where your crystals can rest together when not in use. Light a candle or place a flower there if you feel inspired. This could be a little sacred “home organization” corner of your home. It will also act as a visual reminder for your home organization goals.
- Have them nearby or even put one in your pocket when decluttering. You can use the crystals as a form of guidance or emotional steadiness, so that you remember to stay anchored, focused, and kind with yourself.
- Hold one during journaling/reading journals or intention-setting. Let the crystal act like a silent companion. I also like to put a crystal on top of my written intentions.
- Speak to them. Tell them what you’re feeling, what you’re hoping for, or simply say, “thank you for being with me”.
- Sleep with one under your pillow or next to your bed (or even under your bed!). This is an especially good place for black tourmaline.
- Make a crystal grid! This is like a mandala of crystals. For this, you will need multiples of each crystal, depending on how many points you want in your design. You can use these for specific intentions, depending on which crystals you choose. I still have the one that I made for my dog’s heart chakra, which has lots of rose quartz, malachite, watermelon tourmaline, jade, and other special stones. Read the post on how I made it here.
- Make gem water. Some crystals you can even use to charge your water (but please make sure they are safe for water). From the ones I listed above, only the rose quartz and the amethyst can go directly in water. This is a cool book about making Gem Water.
You also don’t have to pay too much attention to the crystals for them to work. Crystals emanate vibrations that help organize your space. I have a big chunk of each of these near the center of my home, and smaller pieces in various rooms. I also have smaller pieces that are easy to hold that I will use for meditations or when I’m listening to hypnosis tracks.
There are LOTS of books about crystals out there. This one is my favorite: The Book of Stones. I also have this book: The Crystal Bible, which is much smaller and simpler than the other book.
Crystals are more than just beautiful decorations. They can be allies in creating a home that supports your energy, your intentions, and your growth. Whether you actively use them daily, or keep them around to use passively, they can help you create more clarity, calm, and organization on your home.
